So much has gone on since I last wrote, mostly good but also some bad things. I’m really sorry for not writing. I missed it. But there was just so many things going on and new changes that I had to reevaluate what was a priority and what wasn’t.
Anyways, I’m going to make this blog and space a priority now. So, stay tuned for more.
All the love.
Before getting my big girl job, I worked weekends at a high-end salon as a receptionist. And as you know, I looove makeup and skin care products. Hair care and products are a bit foreign to me though. It’s not because I have no interest in it, I just never got the time to invest in researching and learning about everything. I learned a lot at my time at the salon and I thought I should share tips with you guys!
Adding oil/serums won’t make your hair overly oily-
Just like adding oils to your face, it’s all about moderation! Serums and oils are basically just like lotion for your hair, they add tons of moisture back after stripping it all away with washing your hair. The key is to add a little dollop at a time, focusing at the ends and lower half of your hair since this is the areas that have the most amount of damage.
The Unite U Oil is the one I use, it’s a bit expensive in my opinion but since I get it at discount at the salon, why the heck not. A cheap alternative is the OGX Argan Oil, which is what I used before. Use a small dollop on your hands, rub into your hands and pat it into chunks of your damp hair starting at your ends and moving upwards. Don’t rub it in your strands as this could cause further breakage!
Clarifying Shampoos For a Deep Clean
Clarifying shampoo is something new to me and I’m still trying out. The point of it is to clear out any leftover product gunk that your regular shampoo doesn’t get. Don’t use this all the time though as it could leave your hair dry. Switch out your regular shampoo for a clarifying one every once in a while, like twice a month. I don’t normally use any types of products besides the serums and dry shampoo but I do admit that I probably overuse my dry shampoo and often feel like there’s a lot of leftover gunk because of this.
Let me tell you, my scalp felt so much cleaner after using this once! I even recommended my brother use this because he wears product every day and he agrees!
Going From Dark Hair to Blonde is Almost Hard in One Session
Not so much a tip but just an FYI. A lot of girls want to go from dark hair to blonde and expect it to be done in a few hours. Although it’s possible, almost all of the stylists at the salon I work at won’t do it. Going so many shades lighter is for sure going to cause serious damage. Expect multiple sessions to get the lighter shade you want. Yes, it’s more money but what’s the point of having a gorgeous hair color if your hair is super damaged?

Words of wisdom for a 21 year old.
Guess what today is! My 21st birthday!
It feels like just yesterday I was 16 imagining my life as a 21-year-old. This age always seemed so mystic, like it would never come and now that it’s here it doesn’t feel real. The early twenties is so weird, you have friends who are still in school and still needing to tell their parents when they go out but on the other hand, there are people your age getting married and having kids, whaat?
I’m determined to make 21 and 2018 crazy awesome. #Noregrets am I right? I feel like I’ve finally figured out who I am and who I want to be. I’ve only lived 21 years but I feel like I’ve learned so much about people and the world, yet I have so much more to learn. Since high school I feel like I’ve been rushing through life, moving from one thing to the next, always looking for something to do. I want to slow it out down this year and really soak in and act like I’m 21. No family, I don’t mean go out to the clubs every night. I mean figure out my life out a little more. I finished my bachelors so I’m not going to rush into a masters program or rush into another career. I just want to be for now.
Life tips from a 21-year-old:
- Self Reflect: Think and learn about yourself: your overall being, your actions and how you treat others. Be wary of how powerful your voice and presence is. Know you are enough. Know that mistakes are not the end of the world and that learning is a lifetime type of thing. Write how you feel or talk it out. Don’t bottle up.
- Kindness Makes the World Go ‘Round: BE KIND! Say please and thank you to everyone. Say sorry! Kindness is universal. Use your turn signal for peetes sake and hold the door open for people. Being nice isn’t just for these strangers, it’s for yourself. I swear you’ll feel so much better about yourself just by being nice!
- You is kind, you is beautiful, you is important: Do you know how goshdarn unique you are? No one else in the world is like you, from your appearance to your personality. Screw what anyone else says, someone loves you. Who? Me. I love you.
Also thinking about doing a little giveaway soon, would that be fun? STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS!
All the heckin’ love.
I am officially a college graduate! Finished my last ever finals a few weeks back and I finally got my diploma in the mail! It feels so surreal to be done with school, for now at least. Going to school is all I know since I’ve been in the education system basically since I can talk. It feels weird to not be worrying about my next exam and assignment. Having a college degree has been the biggest goal in my life, whats my goal now? Obviously, it’s to get a job in a career and industry I want but I’m halfway done with that goal, so now what?
I’m always looking for the next big thing, which in some cases is great because it means I’m constantly growing and changing. But, it gives me so much anxiety and makes me second guess myself. I know what I want to do, I guess it’s the getting there that makes me worry. Like how will I know if what I am doing now is helpful in my career later on? And this is where you say, “you won’t know till the time comes Cate, calm down!” But I can’t!
I don’t mean to toot my own horn (I do), but I finished college before I turned 21, got a job within a week of officially finishing school and I know that’ss amazing but I just feel that there’s something else I can be doing to be a better candidate and overall person. I’m scared of being still because I know starting up again is going to be incredibly difficult. I don’t want to see myself in a rut and I don’t want to be one of those people who are just content with what is. It’s just not me.
I’m calling this my 1/5 life crisis. What in the world is Cate going to do next? Hopefully get a dog but that’s not happening anytime soon, thanks dad…

In the words of DJ Khaled, another one! Tried to get a little more fancy with my photos so let me know what you think! I’m quite proud of my first okay looking flat lay and these pictures. More importantly, I’m super happy about these new goodies! Some of them I snatched at TJ Maxx and others at Sephora, here we go!
These little babies actually came from my Sephora birthday gift! I’ve heard a lot about GLAMGLOW products but haven’t used them yet.
I got this serum from TJ Maxx for about $8 and I used this one already and hated it. It’s super sticky and smells off. Putting it on was fine but my face felt itchy after a while and when I scratched my itch, the serum actually peeled off like dead skin. I returned it but the search for a non expensive vitamin C serum continues.
I actually got this Olehenriksen mask from TJ Maxx for $10! I think they just revamped the packaging and changed the name to “Moment of Truth…” which is why TJ Maxx had it. It retails at Sephora for $40~ so I’m super happy about this steal.
I’m actually not that big of a fan on sleeping masks but I’ve been wanting this mask for a while because it’s watermelon. I got the little baby trial size because I can’t imagine spending $45 for this.
To be honest, I thought I grabbed the acne spot treatments. I haven’t used these and don’t really like pore strips since they never really work for me. The last one I bought was the Skinfood pore strips which came with a few nose strips and forehead strips. They definitely got more out than the Bioré packs. What’s your favorite pore and blackhead treatment?
A while ago I bought a super cheap $14 spinning face cleansing brush on Amazon that broke a few weeks after I bought it. It so well despite its short lifespan, so I wanted to invest in a better cleansing brush. The new Foreo Luna 2 comes to $200 but I couldn’t fathom spending that much for vibrating face brush. This mini has about 150+ uses, according to the Sephora lady and comes to $40. It’s been treating me well so far so maybe after this one dies on me I’ll snatch another Foreo brand.
What have your favorite makeup and skincare products been lately? Also can you believe I took these pictures with an iPhone 8+?!
All the love.
Hi, so it’s been a minute and I totally apologize!
Life’s been crazy and I swear I feel like I’ve been running around since January. February and March have treated me well though. Vegas was in February and Chicago in March. Chicago was amazing, I loved the city so much. It’s definitely a place I would move to if it wasn’t so cold. I got to spend about a week in Chicago and it was definitely just the right amount of time. We saw a whole bunch of touristy things plus a handful of other cool places but I still feel like there’s so much more to see!
Side note, I don’t get The Bean, moreover, I don’t get public art but oh well. Speaking of art, my favorite part of the whole trip probably has to be seeing Frank Lloyd Wright’s studio and home in the Chicago ‘burbs. Wright was a super cool American architect, interior designer and writer. His work is so beautiful and different. One of my tattoos is actually inspired by one of Wright’s window designs. So there was definitely a little bit of fangirling.
It’s funny though looking at the picture above because his own house isn’t as extravagant as the other homes he’s designed. Here are a few more pictures from some conservatory I can’t recall the name of.
Anyways, I also finished all of my online courses a week ago so your girl is officially a college graduate! Two and a half years of grinding away and I’m finally done! For now at least. So the job hunt continues. I feel like I’m racing against time to hurry and get a job and I know it’s a process but jeez am I getting a lot of anxiety…
On a happier note, I turn 21 this month! I probably won’t do anything crazy but getting older is exciting, right?
All the love.
Well here it is, my first make up post!
I looove make up and pretty much wear it everyday. Recently I took a trip to Sephora and the Morphe store and got some new goodies, take a look!
I am obsessed with fake lashes. I wear them everyday, I know, it’s bad for my skin but I can’t help it!
I’ve tried so many lash brands from Lilly Lashes to Ardell. Morphe lashes are by far my favorite lashes ever! They’re cheap, their premium lashes, the ones in the black boxes come at $10 a pop. Morphe also sells cheaper lashes at $3 but those aren’t as full as the premium ones.
These are my two favorite, the top one being Eye-traction which are definitely more dramatic than my other go to, Hypnotic.
I also snatched these two Hourglass eyebrow products that I’ve never tried before! My normal brow products are the IT Cosmetics Brow Powder Pencil and the MAC Pro Longwear Brow Set. I wanted to change up the products but keep the same look. I’ve been working to make my brows more natural and less chunky and Instagram-y. The super amazing and helpful Sephora lady told me these two would work perfectly for what I wanted to achieve!
Last product! This winter has been brutal on my skin, making dry spots on my chin and cheeks. I normally have normal skin, nothing too oily or dry. I wanted a face moisturizer that wasn’t too heavy so I could use day and night. I’ve never used this before so hopefully it works well!
And that’s it for this haul! I’m thinking about doing a blog just on lashes since I have so many and have tried a bunch of lash brands, we’ll see!
All the love.
